C-130 Hercules

I got to ride in one of these a couple months ago through Civil Air Patrol. We flew from McEntire Air National Guard Station in Columbia, SC to Hurlburt Field (part of Eglin AFB) in Pensacola, FL. The ride down was kind of boring. The only part that was fun was when we hit some turbulence and started bouncing around a little bit. Some of the other CAP cadets that had never flown before started to freak out! That was funny for a little while until some of them started to look sick!
On the way back, we had a tail-wind, so we got back in 1.5 hours instead of 2. I got to sit in the cockpit during the landing, and that was a lot of fun. There was a bunch of storm clouds rolling in over McEntire that the pilot didn’t want to fly through, so he pulled out some cool maneuvers to get down through a break in them. We did a series of steep turns that were really fun. It was pretty cool to see the horizon as a vertical line in front of us! After we landed and got out, the cadets that were down below wanted to know what in heck the pilot was trying to do! They couldn’t really see what was going on, they could just feel the G’s!

JP,
Thanks for sharing your experience. I hope you get to do more exciting things in CAP!
